ABOUT EDGI

The Eating Disorders Genetics Initiative (EDGI), led by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Mental Health BioResource (part of the NIHR BioResource), researchers at King’s College London and Beat, the UK’s eating disorder charity, is a project set up to support studies exploring risk factors for eating disorders.

Eating disorders are severe psychiatric illnesses and are associated with one of the highest mortality rates within mental health. Research carried out through EDGI aims to better understand anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, and any other eating disorders in order to improve treatments and help current and future patients and service users.

We invite you to take part!

To take part in EDGI, you must:

  • Have experienced symptoms of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder or any other eating disorder.
  • Be aged 16 or over
  • Live in England

There are 4 simple steps to signing up to EDGI:

  1. Register for the website and read the information sheet
  2. Provide consent
  3. Complete a ~30 minute questionnaire to see if you are eligible
  4. Send a saliva DNA sample through the post
